What does a weekend in training look like?
A typical weekend in Blue Ridge Yoga’s Teacher Training
Friday: 5:30pm-8:30pm
Begin the weekend Friday night with a yoga practice and review. Each week, we will focus on a specific type of pose, such as standing poses, backbends, twists, etc. On Friday nights, we review the material from the week before to make sure all questions are answered before moving on. Fridays may also include a short discussion on a topic separate from the pose review.
Saturdays & Sundays, 8am-5:30pm
Come in Saturday morning and begin with a practice related to the pose-focus of the weekend. After the yoga practice, we will discuss in greater detail the individual poses, benefits, safety, prop usage, etc. During this time, you will practice teaching to your peers (Don’t worry! We start off in small groups and give you plenty of time to progress throughout the program). Sunday mornings will follow the same pattern and continue the discussions from the previous day.
Lunchtime is from 12pm-1pm. Feel free to pack a lunch and eat at the studio (we have a microwave and a mini-fridge) or enjoy a walk around the greenway and eat outside. The studio is a short walk or quick drive to Turkey Creek which has a wide variety of dining options.
After lunch, expect some time to rest & digest before more yoga practice. Most afternoons are spent discussing the other elements of the training, including Anatomy & Physiology, Meditation, Yoga Philosophy, and more. Expect an additional yoga or meditation practice of some sort before the end of the day.
Each weekend ends with personal time for the group to share their experiences and get to know one another better.
We hope this gives you a better idea of what to expect during the training weekends. We have thoughtfully organized our training to give you the best experience, and we continue to make updates each year based on the feedback we receive.
